I don't have an objection to adding mappings for those
characters. But with the above, people have difficutly in
typing, for instance, "r.". How about these?
("r." "Ṛ") ("r." "ṛ")
("r.." "r.") ("r.." "r.")
...
They give more consistent behavior; i.e. typing the second
key twice generates non-combined character.
