Would it be very difficult to make monotone use fd 0 as the
_listen_ socket rather than opening one itself? Then one
could start the server via inetd, it would handle all
connections that come in, and then it could terminate after
there was nothing to do for n seconds.

That's exactly the behaviour of the command above. Note the - sign as the listen address!
