Follow-up Comment #96, bug #54235 (project octave):
Basically I think the GNU autotools are correct to require POSIX utilities,
and Solaris 'sh' and 'id' are simply not POSIX compatible, so Solaris users
have to know to work around these quirks when using portable build systems.
