Follow-up Comment #120, bug #54235 (project octave): I'm ambivalent about points 3 and 7. I don't want to waste a lot of energy supporting outdated compilers. If Octave was to drop gcc 4.XX support then we could skip point 3. On the other hand, gcc5 did seem to be a huge issue on Solaris. How certain are we that it wasn't just a mangled installation?
