Follow-up Comment #1, bug #55528 (project octave):
I get:

error: graphics_toolkit: gnuplot version too old.
error: called from
graphics_toolkit at line 88 column 9
The src/gnuplot.mk file says version is 5.2.5; a newer version mentions
5.2.6.
(and at present I can't update the mxe-octave repo (Gateway time-out)
