Follow-up Comment #4, bug #55528 (project octave):

In a bash shell on mxe-octave the gnuplot command gives neither error message
nor output.
"gnuplot &" gives'[1] 6884" so it sees to run somehow but that's about it.
So I conclude gnuplot.exe is somehow broken.
