Follow-up Comment #23, bug #59706 (project octave):

Oops. I forgot: We don't use gnulib's `stat` replacement on Windows but use
the WinAPI directly (because gnulib doesn't consistently handle non-ASCII
characters on Windows).
So `canonicalize_file_name` is definitely gone from this code path now...
