Follow-up Comment #10, bug #62282 (project octave):

That's still not generally correct...

>From the docs:
> Filenames are subject to shell expansion if they contain any wildcard
characters ‘*’, ‘?’, ‘[]’. To find a literal example of a wildcard
character the wildcard must be escaped using the backslash operator ‘\’. 

So e.g., `\*` should match a literal asterisk "*".
I'm not sure if this ever worked as documented on Windows...

I'm attaching yet another version of a patch that will hopefully finally get
this right.
