Follow-up Comment #23, bug #63791 (project octave):

I just tried the updated movfun in 8.0 Feb 3 with a data that would fail with
the memory error message. 

       x      979968x2                   15679488  double

The data ran through and produced identical results with the local version I
have.  Elapsed time is about 8 sec. Thanks.
