I agree with Dmitri that this sounds like a packaging issue in ArchLinux. 

While it is theoretically possible to check all libraries Octave is using
against each other for compatibility, at some point we have to say that this
is a configuration error by the user that is building Octave. Imho, the
Fortran integer width is one of those cases where we can leave it to the user
to make sure that compatible packages are installed/used.

There is nothing Octave can do to avoid the file conflict between the two
SuiteSparse packages in ArchLinux.

Closing as won't fix.
