Sorry, after I sent my reply I got your reply, too.  Not much
contradiction I hope ;)

log_accum is working well for the emacs project (see the emacs-commit
archives) so I think it is safe for others to use (if they request like
Mark did).

I'm going to test it now in the testytest project and if that works, if it
does I'll install it for Mark.
