git is a distributed version control system. so this question doesn't really matter. the development can happen at both places ( or as many places we want) :)

btw my suggestion to use gitlab was not based on a white/black philosophical issue. we have been using gitlab as smc upstream for quite sometime and we've found that its very functional & feature rich. The suggestion was based on that feedback. At the same time it is true that we will get more visibility when we are on github.
And I agree with you on the grey terminology and I have no intention to initiate a philosophical flamewar on *this* list. :D
