I did now.
When I started it from within Emacs, the message got written.
When I started it from a script, I didn't notice it, but then I didn't
really look that hard before checked out a newer cvs version of
StumpWM.  Now I get the message both ways, and the fonts and colors
change as they should.

The prefix key doesn't change, though.  My .stumpwmrc file contains
 ;; Change the prefix
 (remhash (kbd "C-t") *top-map*)
 (define-key *top-map* (kbd "C-z") '*root-map*)
 (sync-keys)
and that doesn't do the job.  In fact, I end up with no prefix key.
If I start StumpWM with a script, connect to it with slime, and then
enter the above commands, then the prefix key changes.
