I suppose there is no need to be rude here. If I remember correctly  
there is indeed an issue with the TeXmacs speed if you use ATI's own  
graphic drivers in the linux kernel depending on the graphic card.  
This is actually faq #12 on the web page list.

But I underline that I did not experience such slowness myself.
