Seems reasonable enough. Then what's needed is some changes to the scheme interface, namely some export-file function or something like that, and an "export as" dialog using the native dialogs. If you would be so kind Joris as to give the former some thought I can implement the latter (it's mostly or completely there already, anyway)

I think we should not assimilate save and export. we can have a generic export command which opens a dialog where it is possible to choose the export format. But export is inehertly unidirectional while save is meant to preserve the document integrity.

Yes, that would be more in the spirit of the upcoming changes.
Unfortunately, we discovered that the file chooser dialogues are
not very customizable. I actually would have liked to remove
the export and import menus alltogether and add a "format" field
to the open/save dialogue. So I am not sure what we will be able to do.
