Do you also find C-ret or C-backspace hard to type?
C-\ or M-\, or C-RET or M-RET, are perhaps not "hard to type" by themselves on keyboards that do not require pressing another modifier, but as a prefix, followed by another letter, or C-letter, or M-letter, they would. You have to move your hands too much. It can't be an appealing solution for third-party libraries.
