For what specific purpose?  Here a --with-x-toolkit=no build with
debugging symbols mounts up to 23.5 MB, a Motif build to 24.4 MB.  A
--without-x build has 18.5 MB.  Even that nowadays does not justify the
extra maintenance burden.  Motif builds OTOH never incur any additional
maintenance burden when fixing something in the GUI parts of our code.
