I didn't mean that users would be forced to edit directly.

As you suggested 'Those commands manipulate some kind of inventory
somewhere.' which COULD also be viewed in an editor.

Well, I think forcing users to edit it directly isn't so friendly, but
there's no reason why "tla add", "tla move" and so on can't modify it
accordingly.

Similarly, Emacs and other tools that are likely to be used when
moving files would need to be told to use "tla move", but that's
surely not hard (also probably not that important, which I'd guess is
why other systems don't seem to worry too much about it).  I suspect
the latter is partly why Tom likes taglines, since he works in Emacs
more than most people (I use Emacs lots, but I tend to use a shell
when moving files around).
