It's just ... weird

`changes' is a command you give to see the output.  `changes --link' is a
command you give for its side effect, and it's fairly likely you won't care
about the output at such times, or in fact will want to suppress it
(> /dev/null or something).  In the example, the output is conveniently empty
anyway, of course.
