Yes, maybe I /am/ being silly.

It's just that we (Cygwin) now have an easy and verifyable install,
and we could pull emacs in just as easily as XFree (which can run
rootless nowadays) and xdvi.

Emacs' lilypond-mode makes compile and view a breeze, and using xdvi
you have point-and-click back to you emacs again.

Yes; but you'll have to use cygpath then (or link to cygwin.dll too)
to obtain the right path for LilyPond?  It would be too silly to
assume that / is mounted under c:/cygwin?

I have just enough Windows experience to know that I cannot predict
what users would want or expect.  I do think that it would be a good
idea to make `things easier', whether it would be documentation, an
app, or both.
