Follow-up Comment #16, bug #49609 (project octave):

In my Ubuntu 14.04 I can also alternatively start a graphics session that is
called
* GNOME Flashback (Compiz), or
* GNOME Flashback (Metacity)
I am not quite sure what kind of "Gnome" this starts.

But starting any of those two modes, and using any of the aforementioned
.desktop files to start Octave, DOES then also create the crash (of the full
Gnome session) on Ctrl-C in Octave for me.

So this problem might not only be correlated to the Windows manager (Gnome, 
Unity, KDE).
