Follow-up Comment #17, bug #59331 (project octave):

@Torsten: I was suspicious of that setting. But I wasn't able to reproduce the
bug by calling `__mfile_encoding__` directly.
IIRC, the mfile encoding setting in the GUI changes the corresponding setting
in the interpreter and vice versa.
But it's not entirely clear to me why we would end up in an infinite loop...

Can you see which are the different encodings in the two states?
