Follow-up Comment #4, bug #59706 (project octave):
Re comment #2: Could you please show the call stack that Very Sleepy shows to
be this much slower in Octave 6?
Calling `canonicalize_file_name` might still be slow (especially on Windows).
The other bug #57439 was resolved by not relying on that function for the
respective code paths...
