Of course, there is a difference:
- When you find that there are problems with the compatibility of the
OS supplied TAR program, you always have the opportunity to get
star, compile it and use it instead of the OS supplied variant.
- If a tar library in a closed application (such as the kernel) failes,
there is no way to work around the problem. You are bound to the
specialized code in the clused application.
