What version? What does the debug output say on the terminal you
start ratpoison from? Does it seem to be registering the key events?
C-tc should start an xterm, but it must be in the executable path.
Same for C-te starting emacs. Perhaps you need to edit conf.h and
recompile to change those defaults.
One thing you can try is to start an xterm (or other x app) from
another terminal and see if ratpoison manages it. Then you should be
able to type C-tw and see a window list containing the sole xterm.
