speech dispatcher not connecting to alsa

Hello Halim and list,

Thanks for your reply. The .asoundrc file is necessary, because
without it the viavoice synth overlaps itself when speaking.

I tried removing it and reinstalling speech-dispatcher. The result
was the same as when the .asoundrc file is present. Espeak.log below:

Wed Jan 14 17:03:24 2009 [476797] ALSA: Opening ALSA sound output
Wed Jan 14 17:03:24 2009 [476855] ALSA: Opening ALSA device
ALSA lib pcm.c:2196:(snd_pcm_open_noupdate) Unknown PCM pcm.dmixer
Wed Jan 14 17:03:24 2009 [478415] ALSA ERROR: Cannot open audio device
pcm.dmixer (No such file or directory)
Wed Jan 14 17:03:24 2009 [478449] ALSA ERROR: Cannot initialize Alsa device
'pcm.dmixer': Can't open.

Regards,

Rob
