well, if '-r' is a sufficiently well supported option to 'ls', then it
sure is an alternative to 'tac'. Would you like to prepare a patch to
make that change?
According to Autoconf manual

"portable options are -acdilrtu".

I'm happy to prepare a patch. Give me a few days or so.
