Hello Maciej, Mark, Karl and all!


I have finished the cross-compile patch.  (I followed my own instructions
from a previous post.)  It's attached to this mail.  Thanks to Mark and
Maciej for their inspiration.

I tested the patch with a normal build and with a pseudo-cross build
(build=i686, host=i386).  Though I haven't tested it in an actual
cross compile environment, I beleive it goes the right direction, at least.

Mark, Maciej, please give it a try when you have time.

Karl, I'd like to ask you to accept the patch, on the following grounds:
1) it's small and simple
2) it almost doesn't affect the ``normal build''
3) Thus the maintenance work will be minimal.

Karl, have we convinced you?
