It might help you to re-read "Inventory Tags for Source" in the Arch
tutorial while replacing occurences of 'tag' by 'identifier'.

An inventory tag assigns an identity to a file, possibly independent
from the file name. Now, if you choose the names tagging
(identification) method then the name _is_ the tag (identifier) which
implies that when you rename something, something's identity changes.

The tagline method handles this problem best because it allows you to
include the tags in the files -- which simplifies rename and delete --
but it also lets you use explicit (separate) tags for directories and
file types which do not allow addition of embedded custom meta-data.

Changing the tagging method results into a massive delete/add of
everything, and could even trigger some other Chistmas Suprises, who
knows. That kind of thing is not exactly part of the Arch users'
routine so my experience level is very low, but I would say that if
you already have many branches around, you might want to end all the
current versions and re-import your main source base with the new
tagging method into a new version.

Hopefully someone will soon correct me if there is a better solution.
