If you open your email with _very_ personal opinions, why should I read the 
rest? I will anyway; but please don't let your feelings decide for you.
To counter that point; for normal (non programmers) people fish is a lot 
easier to remember then a 4 letter acronym that has no meaning to them.

I like the 'ssh-ftp:' one a lot; that solves the problem at hand.  Anyone 
against?

If the manual is being read, you've already won, the idea behind a rename is 
to make clear what the protocol is about even if you don't read the manual.
