Follow-up Comment #24:

It looks like that code snippet was added as part of the changes for bug
#59426 (issues with horizontal widget layout?).

Does that still work correctly on affected systems after jwe's patch is
applied?

I haven't seen this before on any of my systems. But it might be nice to have
this fixed for Octave 7 if the fix is as simple as it currently looks.
