Follow-up Comment #28, bug #61172 (project octave):

I have taken Torsten's patch (from comment #27) and recompiled Octave 7.0.90
on my Ubuntu laptop. And on my two-monitor setup his patch also solves this
issue for me.

But: The horizontal layout (I just moved the central separator some way to the
left side) is properly conserved, when closing and re-opening the Octave GUI
in a non-maximized window configuration. But when having the Octave GUI in a
maximized window, then this horizontol layout is reset to default (i.e. the
separator in the middle) after a restart of the GUI.

This seems to be a (small) regression introduced by this patch. (Does this
"showMaximized" command maybe ignore the horizontal layout? Pressing the
maximize button of the window decoration also ignores my horizontal layout, so
this might be the expected behavior of "showMaximized".) I personally would
still consider the new behavior (with Torsten's patch) better than before, for
my two-monitor setup. But other people (with one monitor and a fancy
horizontal window layout) will most probably see this different.
