I agree. That's another strong point in favor of nongnu.org.
As Rudy said, some users will get puzzled at first, which is an advantage
because the best way to teach something to someone is by getting them
puzzled about it.

Good idea. Hopefully, we will manage to separate freesofware.fsf.org and
savannah.gnu.org this weekend (Loic is working on it). An if you register
nongnu.org we can take the opportunity to display that information prominently
in both sites (not just in individual project sites). For instance the
homepage for savannah.nongnu.org could say something such as:
  "This is Savannah at nongnu.org. Savannah is a software system...
   The software hosted in nongnu.org is not part of the GNU project,
   but it is still Free Software released under licenses compatible
   with the GPL."
