Try compiling without optimization. Not that slow result, but at least
stable. I think this is a known problem, partly documented.

I use "-O0 -g" to build texmacs, 1.0.0.14 through 1.0.0.17, and it
seems to be stable. Also I had turned off the redefined memory allocators.
