Hi, 

There is ttf-freefont collection with a bunch of Russian Koi8-R fonts
(koi8 is a standard among other encodings)  So font is easy to get.
I looked in fonts in 0.3 and it was not straightforward howto reimplement it
for russain characters, so we probably need to get TTF support in.
