Either we use semantic markup or we use simple fixed markup.

If we need semantic markup, we can either stick with Texinfo-like
syntax or move to a syntax like what I suggested.  (I think you would
remember these commands.)

Maybe we don't meed semantic markup, if we can work out how to handle
display on a tty.  If we don't need semantic markup, we can use the
simple markup as in /italic/ and *bold*.
