[Fsfe-uk] Membership

How many members have we got in the AFFS? The reason I ask is this.

If we have < 100 members no-one in the greater scheme of things will
take much notice of us. If we had 100,000 + members we could get the ear
of politicians thinking of all those votes! So if this was thought
desirable, how do we get to 100,000 members? One way would be to grant
associate membership free to any teacher in a school that uses free
software. Associate members would be sort of sleeping supporters. Bit
like signing a petition but would remain members until they decided to
resign. ie unless they make the effort to opt out they are in and stay
in. This means we don't have to have complicated systems of renewal.
Active members would be people like us who paid out £10 and discuss
policy on the list etc. If we take the barriers away from being a
member, recruitment becomes much easier. Any thoughts?
