I assume you do not use debian? This gui authentification stuff is
something that should be dealed with by the distribution packagers
because it's pretty different on all the distributions. On debian I
pack it with gksu and it works pretty well. What distro and
spec-file/rpm are you using?

you are right, I'm on fedora core2.

I've never compiled synaptic before, rpms with the latest release were
always accessible. But this time I did it by myself and was suprised that the location of executable has been changed. But now I see what is the reason...
