   M-X works on any terminal.

M-S-x does not work in _any_ terminal, there are plenty of dumb ass
terminals in embedded systems (sometimes custom, sometimes BSD,
sometimes GNU, sometimes some other Unix) that are capable of running
Emacs just fine where it does not work and it is a pain to setup.

That is what _my_ experience is, I am happy for you and others that it
works for you, but lets stop pretending that everyone runs the exact
same thing, and everything works the exact same way for everyone.
