Yes, I also had a similar thing in mind. Besides possible technical usage, the
proper complete URL of a software has a lot of value as documentation.

I am a little busy right now, but hopefully I'll implement it shortly.

About the Javascript, it did happen before for software that were on servers
like SourceForge. If I remember correctly, such servers require the
downloading software (for example wget or curl) to do some
potentially-non-ethical operations on the host before they release the actual
tarball.
