    Royce,

I've seen a similar thing on a MiniRobominds board, and fixed it
by adding a "pull-to-inactive" resistor on the "E" line right at
the LCD. (I can't remember if it was a pullup or a pulldown).

I connected a 5k1 from E to gnd. There seems to be an improvement- no garbage, but the display shifts right or left randomly once in a while. Also funny characters briefly appear on the LCD.

I'm using my LCD in 4 bit mode- is this mode more susceptible to noise?

I think I'll try adding 10n (or less) capacitors from each of the LCD pins to gnd. Any comments on this would be helpful..

Thanks,
--Royce.
